If I were selling Bitcoin to switch into an altcoin, I would first compare NEAR and ADA rather than treat all altcoins as one basket. Both beat Bitcoin over the latest ten days, but NEAR took the lead on the final day. A buyer entering now must decide whether to buy that newly emerged strength at a higher price.
The ten-day winner was not ahead throughout
NEAR's ten-day price return was +6.93%, against Bitcoin's +1.98%. That ranking can look like continuous leadership. Remove the last day, however, and the first nine days were −0.77% for NEAR and +2.89% for Bitcoin. The coin that had lagged reversed the ranking with a final-day gain of 7.76%.
The chart separates the same coins into the first nine days, the final day and the full ten-day window. Compare coins within each panel. Nine-day and one-day returns have different durations and cannot be read as equal speeds. All prices use Bybit's closed daily bars, with every close at 09:00 KST.
NEAR minus Bitcoin was about −3.65 percentage points over the first nine days and +4.95 percentage points over the full ten days. Changing the starting window changes the kind of strength I would be buying. Choosing a coin that led over a long period and betting that a brief revival will keep leading are different decisions.
Choose the actual replacement instead of an altcoin basket
The table compares Bitcoin and seven fixed altcoin candidates using the same closing prices. ADA beat Bitcoin with a ten-day gain of 4.52%. SOL, XRP and ZEC fell over the full window. NEAR's sharp rise cannot stand in for strength across every altcoin.
| Coin | First 9 days · Sep 26–Oct 5 | Final day · Oct 5–6 | Full 10 days · Sep 26–Oct 6 |
|---|---|---|---|
| BTC | +2.89% | −0.88% | +1.98% |
| ETH | +1.32% | −0.62% | +0.69% |
| SOL | −0.47% | −0.67% | −1.14% |
| XRP | −3.05% | −0.86% | −3.88% |
| ADA | +0.39% | +4.12% | +4.52% |
| SUI | +1.12% | +0.46% | +1.59% |
| NEAR | −0.77% | +7.76% | +6.93% |
| ZEC | −13.11% | −1.00% | −13.98% |
A return is the ending close divided by the starting close, minus one. This table compares the prices of eight selected futures, not an all-altcoin index or account returns after fees and funding. For a spot-market switch, recalculate using the prices and costs in the market I would actually trade.

One strong day could be the start of a new move
It is too soon to conclude that a late-rising coin should never be bought. NEAR and ADA genuinely outperformed Bitcoin on the last day. If a trend is just changing, someone focused only on the previous nine weak days could miss the next window. I would keep both candidates and first check whether their relative strength survives the next equal window.
NEAR's previous ten-day gain does not belong to a buyer entering now. Switching after the jump means paying the costs of selling and buying, then comparing the two coins from their new prices. The bet is on which will be stronger from now, rather than reassurance from buying yesterday's winner.
Put both coins on the same starting line before switching
For a fresh comparison, set Bitcoin and the candidate's prices to 100 separately at the actual decision time. Over the next equal window, compare which rose more, or whether the candidate fell less than Bitcoin. Losing less relatively does not mean the account made money, so record the price direction too.
If NEAR or ADA keeps leading and the gap remains after my trading costs, the switching case strengthens. If the lead disappears in the next comparison, I should weaken the view that a one-day rebound represents lasting strength. These observations point to comparing the two strong candidates with Bitcoin from the same starting line.
To decide where that starting line belongs, first read the difference between the price Bitcoin touched and the price it held at the close.
